Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 3 wickets here at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday to keep themselves alive in the hunt for the playoffs.
Winning the toss, Royals' captain Steven Smith elected to bowl first. KKR's captain Dinesh Karthik played one of his best T20 innings by scoring 97* of just 50 balls to help KKR post a total of 175/6 in 20 overs. Nitish Rana scored 21 of 26 balls but other batsmen failed to leave an impact.
Varun Aaron took 2 wickets for Royals and conceded only 20 runs in his 4-over spell.
In reply, Rajasthan royals chased down the target in 19.2 overs with 4 balls to spare and 3 wickets remain. Riyan Parag hit 47 of 31 balls, Rahane hit 34 of 21 balls while Archer finished the game by scoring 27* of just 12 balls. Piyush Chawla took 3/20 in his 4-over spell but it wasn't enough.
Man of the match was Rajasthan's Varun Aaron for taking 2 wickets and conceding only 20 runs in 4 overs.
With this win, Rajasthan keep themselves alive in the race for the playoffs, standing at 7th position with 8 points in 11 games while KKR stand at 6th position with 8 points in 11 games.
